Network Discovery
There are several discovery applications and tools included in the Engineer's Edition Toolset.  Some make IP Address Management much easier while others identify DNS Errors in your high speed data network.  The two most popular are the Network Sonar capable of creating an inventory database of multiple class B's and the IP Network Browser.  The IP Network Browser is by far the fastest, most robust discovery engine in the industry.  It's "point and discover" approach makes is one of the reasons SolarWinds was awarded "Editors Choice" for best networking toolset in 2002.
Switch Port Mapper - Tired of chasing cables and spending hours trying to identify what is connected to your Switch? The Switch Port Mapper can discover the ports on any manageable Ethernet switch or hub and detail the devices connected to those ports by MAC address, IP address, and hostname.  Since this is a real-time discovery you can view the operational status and port speed of each port. The Switch Port Mapper makes network documentation easy. You can export to Excel, PDF, CSV, and HTML.

IP Network Browser - Interactive TCP/IP network browser for Windows. Scan an IP subnet and show what devices are responding on that subnet. Discovers details about each interface, Frame Relay DLCIs, IOS levels, flash memory, hub ports (if it has an integrated hub), installed cards, routes, ARP table, and many other details. You can even view the installed software and running software on your servers.

Network Sonar - SNMP discovery engine creates a detailed discovery database of your high speed data network.  Exports results into MS Access for easy analysis.  So powerful, Sonar even discovers devices that do not support SNMP. This is the fastest discovery engine in the industry for complex, multi-vendor networks. Multiple Class C's can be scanned in a matter of minutes.  Sonar comes with several default reports and graphs to visually display your inventory.

MAC Address Discovery - The SolarWinds MAC Address Discovery will scan the subnet on which you are attached and construct a table of relating IP Address to MAC Address, DNS, Network Card Manufacturer and Manufacturer Address.  The best method of discovering the MAC Addresses for other subnets is to place the SolarWinds tools on a laptop and take the laptop to the remote subnet to be scanned.  For scanning multiple subnets, use the Network Sonar application.

DNS Audit - As networks grow, keeping track of every assigned IP Address and Domain Name is a daunting task.  DNS Audit not only inventories your IP Address but it also validates the correct forward and reverse resolution of Domain Names.

IP Address Management - is an easy to use Address Management System that automatically determines what  IP addresses are not in use and how long it has been since they have been used.  This tool also supports SNMP during its network discovery. Throw away your Excel Spreadsheets and let SolarWinds help you organize your broadband data network address space.

SNMP Sweep - SNMP Sweep is a combination of a Ping Sweep and SNMP Discovery tool.  SNMP Sweep queries the IP Address range defined and then locates both used & unused IP Addresses.  SNMP Sweep is a quick and simple way to scan a subnet and discovery its contents.

Subnet List - Need to "Scope out" a network fast? With Subnet List you can quickly discover all Subnets and Masks on a network.

Ping Sweep - The ability to Scan (PING) either Responding or NON-Responding IP Addresses. This feature  is very handy in determining which IP Addresses are in use.

An important feature of the Ping Sweep is its ability to export or print the results to any of the following:
  • Comma Delimited file (CSV)

  • Plain Text file (TXT)

  • HTML

  • Excel Spreadsheet

  • or Copy directly to the Clipboard
