MIB Browser Utilities
One of the primary methods for remotely monitoring and managing network devices is thru the use of MIB's.  The information available on network devices via SNMP is defined by a set of managed objects referred to as the SNMP Management Information Base (MIB). SolarWinds Network Engineering Tools utilize standard and vendor proprietary MIBs to collect various information about network devices. SolarWinds has compiled an extensive MIB library of over 200,000 unique OID's (Object ID) that ship with the Engineer's Edition Toolset.  The following is an overview of the primary tools that focus specifically on extracting and viewing MIB's.
MIB Browser - The MIB Browser application utilizes SolarWinds extensive MIB database of over 200,000 unique OID's compiled from over a thousand standard and proprietary MIBs. The MIB Browser can walk MIB trees, view MIB tables, search MIBs, remotely modify SNMP values, and many other SNMP functions. It allows an engineer to make changes to the remote device. The remote device could be a router, switch hub, server, firewall, or any other device that supports SNMP.

SNMP Graph - This utility is a real-time data collection and graphing tool capable of graphing data from any MIB (Management Information Base) simply by selecting the device and the desired OID (Object ID).  The SNMP Graph can monitor parameters like: Traffic, CPU Processor Load, Voltage on a Power Plant, Unique User per Web Server, Temperature, VoIP Traffic, and much more.  If you can access a device by SNMP then the SNMP Graph will allow you to graphically monitor and view the statistics of that OID.  The monitored SNMP OID can be from standard MIB or a Vendor proprietary MIB

MIB Viewer -  The MIB Viewer uses SolarWinds extensive MIB database to display any OID or Table.  It has the same output as the MIB Browser, but is a quicker method of retrieving frequently used MIBs. It also has a very easy to use and powerful Programmer's API.  The MIB Viewer is usually called programmatically from other SolarWinds tools. For details on how you can call it from your own programs see MIB Viewer API.

MIB Walk - This utility will walk the SNMP tree for a target device and dump the value of each OID. This tool is commonly used to find out what MIBs and OID's are supported on a particular device. MIB Walk will produce a complete listing of all supported MIBs and OID's and report the current setting for each OID. MIB Walk uses SolarWinds extensive  database of MIB information to determine the English name for each OID and the MIB to which it belongs. The MIB walk recognizes not only MIBs from Cisco, HP, SUN and BAY but may private MIBs.

Update System MIB's -  The Update System MIB utility is a quick and simple tool that lets you view, update and publish changes to the User Description fields for any SNMP device.  Make changes to: System Name, Location, Contact, et..  Simply enter the IP address and corresponding community string and click on Retrieve Details. This utility is commonly used to set system information on network printers (including Jet-Direct cards), hubs, X-Terminals, and terminal servers.
